4 Rookie Hot Tub Buying Mistakes

4 Rookie Hot Tub Buying Mistakes

hot tub

If you’re a hot tub novice, you may think hot tubs are all the same. Hot tubs actually come in a wide variety of options, from cosmetics, features, long-term performance and even to therapeutic benefits!  When you invest in a home spa, you want the best money can buy, and you want to be relaxing in it years down the road. Need a little help knowing what to look for when you’re choosing your new spa? Avoid these rookie mistakes.

Not Shopping with a Reputable Spa Dealer

As we mentioned, there’s a huge range of options when you’re purchasing for a spa. The last person you want to help you decide which one to buy is the guy at the bulk warehouse store. Even worse, is buying one at an expo or ordering online. Why? A couple of reasons. First, you want an expert explaining the differences between models and how that will affect your spa’s performance, maintenance, and longevity. Secondly, you want to purchase from a dealer who’s going to be around when you need help! As a new hot tub owner, you’re bound to have questions, and a reputable spa dealer is happy to help you after the sale. Plus, you’ll need maintenance or repairs occasionally. When the time comes, you’ll appreciate having a relationship with a good spa dealer.

Assuming More Jets are Better

Sometimes more jets are better, but sometimes not! Your sales representative can explain the difference in jets on all the models you’re considering. Remember though, when it comes to jets, quality is more important than quantity. It’s the action of the jets (sweeping, pulsating, rotating, etc.) that makes for a superb soak. Consider also that your hot tub only has a certain amount of power. The pump will push water through the jets based on the amperage of your hot tub. More jets means your hot tub needs a higher amperage so that the pump can adequately push water through them all.

Not Comparing Short-Term Cost vs Long-Term Cost

When you buy a hot tub, don’t forget to consider the long-term maintenance and energy costs as well. A cheap hot tub may seem like a great deal now, but if it costs double (or more!) to operate each month and will require more maintenance and frequent repairs, it won’t be long before you’ll wish you had sprung for a nicer hot tub model.

Not Trying Before You Buy

Seats feel different, headrests are at varying heights, and footbeds don’t fit comfortably for all people universally. This why you should always take any hot tub you’re considering purchasing for a dry test. If possible, have all the members of your family, or those that will be soaking in the hot tub frequently, try out the seats as well. Once you’re fairly certain you’ve narrowed it down to the right hot tub for you, ask for a test soak! When you can feel the jets in action, you’ll be certain you’re getting the exact hydromassage your body needs.
