The primary function of sweat is to cool the body. However, sweat also helps release toxins that are stored inside your body. Consider this: have you been around someone who is a heavy smoker? The reason that person constantly smells like cigarette smoke is because the nicotine literally pours out of the skin while sweating.
Over the course of an average day, a person produces about one quart of sweat. Spending time in a sauna allows you to produce that much sweat in only 15 minutes. Imagine how many toxins are released from the body after 30 minutes, an hour, or more time in a sauna!
The Benefits of Deep Sweating
The health benefits of deep sweating are numerous, and can be achieved by regularly spending time in a
sauna. As you sit in the sauna, your core body temperature starts to rise. Your blood vessels dilate, which increases blood flow throughout your body. As the blood heats up, millions of sweat glands are stimulated by the body’s nervous system. You begin to sweat.
Deep sweating, like what happens when you spend time in a sauna, helps reduce toxin levels that you encounter in your day-to-day activities: chemicals, mercury, nickel, zinc, copper, and lead are all depleted through deep sweating.
Time in a sauna isn’t just relaxing; it’s literally detoxifying your body.
Proven Results on 9/11 Rescue Workers
There are numerous studies about the health benefits of a sauna, including one involving rescue workers impacted by 9/11. After the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings on September 11, 2001, rescue workers were exposed to massive amounts of toxins. The goal of the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project was to help these workers release these toxins that were now stored inside their bodies.
Acute respiratory distress (a result of the toxins) was noticed initially among rescue workers. Over the next few months, many of these heroes also experienced gastrointestinal problems, pulmonary issues, cognitive disorders, irritability, and depression.
More than 500 of these 9/11 responders went through a sauna detox program for three years. Before their sauna detox treatments, they missed about 2 days of work each month and about half of the participants needed pharmaceuticals to manage their symptoms. These heroes also had high Symptom Severity Scores, which included skin, musculoskeletal, cognitive, emotional, and respiratory systems.
After treatment, the number of days of work missed each month dropped to 0.2 and 84% of participants discontinued all pharmaceuticals because symptoms disappeared. Their Symptom Severity Scores dropped dramatically, and the participants reported improvement in reaction time, balance, thyroid function, and even IQ.
Your Own Detox Opportunity
Saunas are fantastic tools that are endorsed by many in the medical community to improve health and overall wellness. You can have your own sauna to renew yourself physically and spiritually. There’s no need to leave the house, you can use your own sauna daily to relax while your body releases those dangerous toxins.
