Your Hot Tub can Help You Fight Your Cold

Your Hot Tub can Help You Fight Your Cold

Congestion, sinus pressure, coughing, sneezing, itchy eyes and the desire to veg-out with Netflix all day long – yep, you have a cold. While the obvious remedies are rest and fluids, sometimes you need that something extra to kick your immune system into high gear. Enter the Master Spas hot tub.

Before you go this route, make sure the hot tub water is clean.

Balanced chemical makeup and sanitation are great for your immune system, but an out-of-whack hot tub chemistry can actually do the opposite. Utilize test strips to check everything, especially the pH level and chlorine count.

The heat from your hot tub is going to do some incredible things, like help your body release the toxins it’s storing up with that nasty cold of yours by increasing your body temperature so you sweat. The hottest safe level will get the best results for you, which is probably about 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Dipping your toe in the first moment will be a bit shocking, but you’re body will quickly adjust to the heat and soak in the benefits.

Twenty minute soaks every few hours are going to be the best defense against your cold, and keep it up until you see results.

What’s an added bonus is that, in between soaks, you’re body will rest better. When we sleep, our body temperature decreases. When we get in a Master Spas hot tub before sleeping, that somewhat dramatic decrease of body temperature when we exit the hot tub means even better sleep.

The heat from the hot tub is going to release toxins – we established that. While much of that will come through your skin as you sweat, some of that is going to be the release of all that blocked up mucus. It may be gross, but make sure you blow your nose properly to get all of that out of your body – it’s trying to evict the infection and you want to help that along.

Finally, since you’ll be sweating so much in that glorious hot tub of yours, make sure you’re staying hydrated and drinking extra water all day. Water is best, but herbal teas also help with your congestion too (just don’t drink anything but water while in the hot tub).
