To get the most out of your hot tub, the first step you should take after ordering, is choosing where to place it. The location of your hot tub is just as important as its quality level. Ignoring the importance of placement could lead to several issues; you might not use it enough, it could drain incorrectly which leads to mold or structural collapse, or it could be difficult for maintenance workers to access and more.
You can’t just place your hot tub anywhere. You need to consider several key factors. After ensuring your location meets the key factors, you can install it inside or outside (whichever you prefer). Most people put it on their patio or deck, but you can place it wherever you want as long as the following key considerations are taken. Remember to exercise common sense by making sure that your location is realistic.

Here are 5 things to consider before you situate your hot tub:
1) Support
Structural support is an important factor to consider. Hot tubs are HEAVY and they’re filled with water (400+ gallons on average) and later people, they can reach well over 5,000 lbs. Make sure your location can support all of your spa’s weight and place your spa on level ground.
For outdoor placement, a thick concrete slab can offer a reliable, solid base. You have other options available on the market, but make sure they can handle the actual weight and size of your hot tub.
If you want your hot tub on your patio, deck, or indoors, call a trustworthy contractor who specializes in structural engineering. Only a qualified professional will know whether the structure can handle the weight of your hot tub.
2) Delivery
Consider whether your chosen location is accessible for the delivery crew with a path that is wide enough to transport your spa. Usually they will unload it in your driveway and move it to the location you’ve chosen. Check your hot tub’s dimensions online or by asking your dealer before the delivery is due and ensure that the path can accommodate it. If a path can’t be cleared, find out if your dealership can set you up with a crane.
3) Upkeep
Your spa should be easy to access for maintenance and drainage. It shouldn’t be located or situated in a way that makes it inaccessible for regular upkeep by yourself and hired professionals. Remember that the location should allow for drainage or you might end up with moisture damage (especially on wooden decks, patios or gazebos). Hot tub ownership means draining your spa several times per year, so try placing it near an existing drain. Don’t forget to waterproof the area if you’re placing your spa inside or on a wooden structure.
4) Comfort
Comfort is an important aspect of picking your location. If you don’t want to neglect your hot tub, choose a quality spa that you will be satisfied with for years to come and put it in a spot that is easy for you to get to. Likewise, your location should allow you and your family to enjoy your hot tub in private. Peace of mind is central to enjoying the whole experience!
5) Ambiance
Although ambiance isn’t nearly as important as the above considerations, it should still be taken into account. Placing your hot tub in an area where it doesn’t become an eyesore for you or your neighbors shouldn’t be forgotten. Throwing it on your front lawn isn’t going to add to your home value and could ruin your home’s overall aesthetic appeal. Although this is usually common sense, you’d be surprised by the number of first-time owners who don’t consider this.
