Can Your Hot Tub Move with You?

Can Your Hot Tub Move with You?

Uh oh, you recently bought a hot tub and now it turns out you’ll be moving! As you survey your hot tub (your favorite backyard accessory), you’re probably wondering, can I move my hot tub with me? Yes, you can! With the exception of most inground spas, you should be able to safely move your hot tub to your new home. Which is great news, because after all the moving hassle you’re going to need a soak! If you’d like to save on the expense of professional movers and DIY your relocation, just follow these steps to safely move your hot tub.

Gather Supplies

You need 2 pallets, 2 pallet jacks, moving straps, and protective moving blankets and/or cardboard. Depending on the site, you may need plywood you can lay over grass or gravel to make a smooth path.

Drain & Clean Your Hot Tub

Follow the manufacturer guidelines and all local regulations to make sure you’re draining your spa water properly. Got questions about this process? We’re here to help

Pack Up the Accessories

Pack up the pump, heater, blower, plumbing and the electrical unit, and the cords.

Grab Some Friends and Load the Hot Tub onto Pallets

To manage all the heavy lifting securely, you will probably need at least 6 people. If the path or truck isn’t wide enough to accommodate your hot tub, you can gently tilt it on its side. Arrange pallets at two opposite ends of the hot tub and then lift it while someone slides the pallets under. If you don’t have enough manpower to fully pick up the hot tub, 3 people can lift one side at a time. In lieu of pallets, you can also set it on plywood or 2×4 pieces of lumber. The idea is to lift the hot tub a few inches off the ground and provide a smooth surface so the pallet jack can slide under and lift your hot tub without damaging it.

Use Two Pallet Jacks to Move the Hot Tub to the Truck

The easiest and most secure way to move your hot tub to the truck is with two pallets. Slide one into the pallet on either side of the hot tub so one jack will be used for pushing while the other jack is used for pulling the hot tub. Got a rough path to get to the moving truck? Lay down plywood for a smooth path so that the pallet jacks can easily roll over.

Load the Hot Tub on the Moving Truck

Lift the hot tub into the truck and wrap it with moving blankets for protection. You can also place cardboard between it and other items/walls so nothing can damage the exterior cabinet in transit.

When you get to the new house, unload the hot tub, lay a plywood path to the site, if needed, and use pallet jacks to roll your spa into place.
