At first glance, a swim spa and hot tub seem much the same, but a swim spa is a little more extensive. However, they are very different in function and size. Most swim spas were built with a pool area and separated seating for hot tubbing.
If you’re debating about whether or not you should purchase a swim spa or hot tub, here’s a closer look at the differences.
Hot tubs
Since both hot tubs and swim spas have jets built in to provide warmth, relaxation, and massages, they are both used for therapeutic reasons and socialization. Because smaller hot tubs are designed to accommodate a few people, you can enjoy a much more intimate experience. On the other hand, swim spas are much larger in diameter allowing for more pool fun.
Hot tubs are available in many shapes and sizes, from a 2–7 seaters and easily fits within a smaller backyard with limited space.
Swim Spas
As both swim spas and hot tubs offer relaxation and well-being, the most significant difference is fitness and recreation. Typically, a swim spa will separate into two separate sections. A hot tubbing area with a deeper-end for recreational pool play and physical fitness. After a vigorous workout, the fitness guru can hop on to the other end of the swim spa and get a relaxing massage.
Because of the strong swim spa current, you can swim laps or exercise in place. The water current is usually a constant flow, providing an optimal workout.
Most larger swim spas have dual-zone heating, allowing one side of the swim spa area to remain cool while exercising and the other side of the hot tub area remains warm for relaxing. Therefore, you’ll get the best of both worlds -a pool and a hot tub in one.
Some of the favorite Master Spas activities include:
- Swimming
- Water aerobics
- Water yoga
- Water walking
- Rowing
Moreover, some swim spa will offer optional fitness equipment such as; water treadmill and underwater exercise bikes.
