Heated by Light, Not Air | Why Choose Infrared Saunas?

You choose them for the heat, of course! But not just any heat – not the kind of heat that comes with potentially harmful side effects like sunburns from solar radiation that can lead to illness over time. No, you choose infrared saunas for the safe kind of heat that seeps deep into your body, increasing circulation, boosts the immune system and nourishing damaged tissue to improve health.

How does it work?

ghsWhile traditional saunas heat the air within the chamber to raise your body temperature, the far-infrared heat (FIR) therapy available in Good Health Saunas utilizes the light spectrum of sunlight (both visual and non-visual – and without the radiation portion as mentioned) to heat the body normally, just like out on the beach on a hot summer day.

While you may sweat a lot more in an infrared sauna than a conventional sauna (up to three times more!), infrareds operate at a much cooler temperature range. If it’s hard for you to tolerate the heat of a conventional sauna or steam room, you may find it much more pleasant in an infrared sauna.

Why do you sweat more?

Because our bodies are made of 70% water and the infrared makes those water molecules begin to vibrate. On the technical side, the vibrations reduce the ion bonds and the water molecules breakdown, releasing the toxins (research shows this reduces cold and flu symptoms). On the layman side, it means you sweat – a lot. But it’s a good thing!

In addition to detoxing your body, the increased body temperature helps you sleep better, especially if you use your sauna in the evening. Our body temperature decreases when we sleep. The dramatic increase of body temperature causes an equally dramatic reduction in body temperature after exiting the sauna, resulting in a better night sleep. The heat also boosts the immune system by increasing the production of white blood cells.
