To enjoy the multitude of benefits that come with owning a hot tub, you probably want to keep your hot tub operational throughout the year. Some owners close up their hot tubs during winter while others find it difficult to use them in the summer. We aim to help you comfortably use your hot tub all year long. Here’s how!
Spring & Summer
As the name suggests, hot tubs are typically synonymous with hot water. However, some homeowners opt for cooling their spas down during the hottest time of the year. One way you can do this, is by turning off your hot tub heater. This will allow the water temperature to slowly cool down.
There are downsides to this method though. First, it can take awhile for the water temperature to lower during hot days and it can take just as long to heat back up. Second, as a result of turning the heater on and off or regularly adjusting the temperature, your energy bill can get hefty. Finally, changing the temperature can force your hot tub heater to overwork which can shorten its lifespan.
Here’s how you can combat slow cooling, raised energy bills and an overworked heater: slightly adjust the temperature to cool down and keep it steady for the rest of the summer season. You won’t need to wait to cool your spa down, your energy bill should stay reasonable and you won’t overwork your heater!
During the spring season, you don’t need to worry much about lowering your hot tub temperature. Spring is probably one of the best times of the year for hot tubbing as it’s comfortable and doesn’t require as much preparation as summer and winter. Just make sure to refill your spa water periodically and check the filters.
Now, you can cool down, relax or rejuvenate during the most sweltering and the most clear of days.
Fall & Winter
In Las Cruces, fall brings more than cool temperatures, fun festivities and delicious Mexican-American food. Fall is a wonderful time to celebrate New Mexico’s natural beauty and the splash of vivid colors that come with it. What better way to celebrate this time of the year than by powering up your trusty hot tub, pumpkin spice latte in hand, as you take in the scenery?
If you have any trees or foliage in your backyard, we recommend that you protect your spa by putting a cover on it when it isn’t in use. As lovely as this time of year can be, leaves can hinder your hot tub’s ability to function properly by clogging filters and contaminating the water.
Enjoy your hot tub regardless of rain, wind or leaves by guarding it with a hot tub cover.
Las Cruces winters might be short and typically clear, but they can get chilly! Sure, we only get 3 inches of snow every once in a while, but it’s important to stay prepared. Snow, even a little bit of it, can damage old or low-quality hot tub covers. Keep your hot tub warm and toasty with an updated cover!
Socialize, soak and exercise in your hot tub instead of bundling up and shivering on your couch. Other ways to get the most out of your spa during winter include:
- Checking your water levels regularly to keep your hot tub from icing over and potentially damaging your spa.
- Refilling your spa ahead of time to keep it from freezing over.
- Turning down your jets as they will lower your water temperature.
- Avoiding soaking for more than 20 minutes at a time if the weather is too cold. You do not want to cause your body to go into shock.
Luckily, in our neck of the woods winter is not usually harsh.
