You want to create an oasis in your backyard so a hot tub is a must. But, where’s the best place to set your new spa? What should you keep in mind when you’re deciding where to place it? We’ve got answers to all your questions! When you buy a hot tub from Pool Tech Plus, we’ll help you iron out all the details so you’ll be happy with the placement for the long haul. In the meantime, here are the main points you need to keep in mind when picking a spot for your hot tub.
Comfort and Privacy
You’ll love that your hot tub becomes your quiet refuge after a busy day. Before you get started on dinner and helping the kids with homework, you can slip away for a decompressing soak and recharge so you have plenty of energy to enjoy the evening with your family. Or, maybe you’ll love taking a hot tub soak before bed most of all. It’ll relax you, ease any aches and pains, and help you fall asleep easier. But, don’t underestimate how much good hot tub placement can impact these restful activities.
If your hot tub is right next to your neighbor’s fence, will barking dogs and playing kids get in the way of your relaxation? How about if you place your hot tub in the far corner of your yard? Will that work, or would it be a pain to walk out there at night or prevent you from keeping an eye on your own playing children? When you pick a spot for your spa, think about your own comfort in accessing it in all types of weather and situations. Plus, the more privacy, the better. But, don’t worry if you don’t have a private spot to place your spa. You can create privacy with clever landscaping or privacy screens. Or, use one of these beautiful pergola designs to create your sheltered oasis.
Installation Necessities
There are a few things that must be lined up before your hot tub can be installed. You’ll need to make sure the site you pick fits the criteria. Here are the main installation items to plan for.
- Structural support – Once filled, your new hot tub will weigh thousands of pounds. A nice, sturdy pad is a must. We recommend a 4” thick concrete pad, but you do have other options. If you plan to place your spa on your existing deck or patio, you’ll need to have a contractor inspect it and reinforce it, if need be.
- Adequate space – Wherever you sit it, make sure there is adequate space around your hot tub. You’ll need room for your cover lifter to operate. Plus, occasionally, you or a technician will need access to the maintenance door, so make sure there is enough space for the door to open fully.
- Electrical – Your hot tub will need its own electrical supply box that isn’t connected to anything else. How far your hot tub is from the existing electrical supply can affect the price your electrician will charge. If he doesn’t have to run the new electrical very far, you could save some money.
