This is the recommended maintenance schedule for a typical 20,000-gallon pool:
Weekly
Twice a week test the pH and chlorine/bromine level. If necessary, adjust pH to 7.4 – 7.6. Add TabGard Tablets 3″ to raise the sanitizer level as follows:
- Chlorine: 1.0 to 3.0 ppm
- Bromine: 2.0 to 4.0 ppm
Brush and vacuum your pool and empty the pump and skimmer baskets. This is important, as it allows adequate water flow through the filtration system. If flow is obstructed, the water will not be filtered.
Shocking should be performed weekly on commercial pools.
Every Other Week
Add four bags of Burn Out 35 to eliminate undesirable compounds such as cosmetics, perspiration, and suntan oil. These reduce the effectiveness of chlorine and cause cloudy, dull water.
Add 8 oz. of Back-Up.
Monthly
Have a complete BioGuardTM Water Analysis performed and adjust water accordingly. Proper water balance is important to protect the pool surface and equipment from corrosion and scale build-up.
Miscellaneous
Back wash filter as needed.
Clean filter with Strip Kwik or Kleen-It mid-season.
Run filter 10-12 hours per day.
Notes
Season’s usage for a 20,000-gallon pool for 12 weeks at 85°F is:
- 24 lbs. of TabGard Tablets 3″
- 24 bags of Burn Out 35
- Two quarts of Back-Up
The amount of chlorine calculated for usage is based on average trichloro consumption of one to 1.5 lbs. per week per 10,000 gallons. Commercial systems will use roughly 2 lbs. per week per 10,000 gallons.
Shocking should be performed every other week, unless BioGuardTM Lite is being used or the pool is commercial. In these cases, shock weekly.
Algicide should be added weekly according to label instructions or every other week if Back-Up is being used.
The above products are the estimated season’s usage for a 20,000-gallon pool for 12 weeks at 85°F. The quantity of products used over a typical swimming season will vary due to the bather load, temperature, pool size and climate.
