What are the Typical Dimensions of a Hot Tub?

If you’re thinking about buying a hot tub, you may be looking at your space and wondering, “just how big is a hot tub? Do I have enough space?” While hot tub sizes aren’t universal, we can give you a basic guideline of typical hot tub dimensions that will work for most any brand.

Basic Hot Tub Dimensions

In general, hot tubs fall into 3 categories:

When deciding what size hot tub to choose, there are two main questions to keep in mind.

How Many People Will Be Using It?

The answer to that may seem obvious, but we encourage you to give some extra thought into the kind of lifestyle you imagine as a spa owner before you answer that. Would you love to invite friends and family over for hot tub parties? Trust us when we say if that’s the case, you’ll have no shortage of friends looking for an invite! In your case, a large Michael Phelps Legend® LSX 900 hot tub might be your perfect Master Spa®!

Do you have kids? You may not expect it, but children and teens love hot tubbing, too, and you may discover that family hot tub night will be one of your favorite family activities. For a family of 4-6, a medium-sized Clarity Spas™ Precision 7 could be ideal.

Maybe you’re buying a spa for faster recovery after working out or to stay limber as you age and expect to primarily use your hot tub alone. In your case, the Twilight Series® TS 6.2 will provide plenty of room for you, plus a few friends when you’re in the mood for company.

Once you have a good idea of how many people you need your new spa to sit, the second question you need to consider is…

How Much Space Do I Have?

Besides your hot tub, the site you pick needs to have room for the foundation, the spa cover lifter, and clearance around the spa to allow for maintenance. Plus, your ideal set up may need room for privacy screens and furniture as well. In general, you can plan on at least a foot of clearance around 3 sides and a minimum of 18” around the access door. This is a great example of the beauty of buying a hot tub locally. A good hot tub dealer is more than happy to give you a consultation and confirm your site has enough room to accommodate the hot tub you’re interested in.
